Uponor System Protects First Responders

Customer Challenge
Deliver an efficient, sustainable snow and ice melting solution that keeps pace with a demanding construction schedule.

Solution
To meet the stringent sustainability and safety standards of the City of Edina, MN, Wenzel Plumbing & Heating integrated an Uponor snow and ice melting system into the new fire station’s concrete aprons, garage, and wash basins. Powered by zero-emission boilers, the system circulates warm water through Wirsbo hePEX™ pipe embedded in the concrete slabs, providing first-responder safety with consistent snow and ice mitigation.

Combining the design support of Uponor Construction Services along with the trusted reliability of Uponor PEX, Wenzel Plumbing & Heating was able to streamline the installation workflow and keep the team ahead of the demanding schedule.

Results
By combining the installation efficiencies of Uponor PEX with comprehensive design support, Wenzel completed the job ahead of the concrete pour, meeting tight project deadlines while eliminating the need for future manual snow removal and harsh ice-melting chemicals. Best of all, the system promotes peace of mind for the first responders who can now deploy safely and effectively with each call.
