Solution
DSO recently completed more than 2,000 units just in Stamford, CT, alone, with additional units in nearby Norwalk. To effectively meet the demanding construction schedules, Capomolla required a reliable solution he could trust. He chose a PEX plumbing system due to the simple installation method and lasting reliability. Traditional piping systems, like copper, require a fitting for every change in direction and lead to longer installation times and higher labor costs. Unlike copper, PEX is inherently flexible and does not require a connection at every change in direction. Also, joining copper typically requires soldering and specialized labor skills that add greater complexity, precise training, and expense. The connection process for PEX is straightforward, efficient, and reliable, eliminating the need for open flame and fire-watch requirements, providing additional time and cost savings. Best of all, because PEX naturally resists corrosion and scale buildup, it is much more reliable, cost-effective, and higher performing compared to copper piping systems, which commonly experience corrosion, pinhole leaks, and scale buildup.
Results
According to Capomolla, leveraging the installation speed of flexible Uponor AquaPEX® pipe and the simplicity of the ProPEX expansion connection system allowed the company to slash upfront training and installation time compared to labor- intensive copper. Capomolla states that the system’s intuitive nature enabled entry-level crew members to make connections immediately, bypassing the steep learning curve of traditional copper systems. The flexibility of Uponor AquaPEX allowed installers to navigate the intricate designs of various units quickly and easily, helping them maintain momentum and consistency to stay ahead of the demanding construction schedules. In fact, DSO was able to finish several installs ahead of schedule, thanks to the help of Uponor AquaPEX and the ProPEX fitting system.
